Abstract
The ship's propeller shaft is an integral part of the ship's propulsion installation that connects the ship's engine to the propeller. The engine's rotation is transmitted to the propeller through the shaft, so the shaft significantly affects the engine's performance. The propeller shaft can wear out due to use and long operating time. Case study of the TB. Farel 11 tugboat that pulled an overcrowded barge. Damage to the bearings and propeller shaft is caused by prolonged use time. When the propeller shaft wears out, the ship becomes unstable and experiences excessive vibration during operation. When handled, damage to the propeller shaft can be easily repaired. Turning the ship's propeller shaft is one repair method that can be done. The results can be seen in sea trial testing to demonstrate good propeller shaft performance. The next suggestion is to use materials that have been tested according to minimum standards to ensure the working performance of the propeller shaft.
