The Journal of Innovation and Technology (INOVTEK Polbeng—Seri Informatika), published by P3M Bengkalis State Polytechnic and bearing ISSN 2527-9866, first published Volumes 1 and 2 in 2016. In the same year, the journal was registered for indexation in Google Scholar and Indonesian OneSearch, managed by the National Library of Indonesia.

At the beginning of 2017, the journal was submitted for indexation in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), although the application did not achieve the expected result. In the same period, the journal was also registered in Neliti. At the end of 2017, the journal was submitted to ARJUNA for national accreditation. Subsequently, on July 9, 2018, Inovtek Journal of Informatics Series received national accreditation with a SINTA 5 rating, covering publications from Volume 1 Number 2 of 2016 to Volume 5 Number 2 of 2020.

In 2018, several quality improvement initiatives were undertaken, including the addition of reviewers from both vocational and academic higher education institutions. The Open Journal Systems (OJS) interface was also improved to provide a more user-friendly environment for authors, readers, and reviewers.

In 2019, the journal template was revised into a one-column format, beginning with Volume 4 Number 1, and this format continued to be implemented until any subsequent policy changes regarding the journal template. In the same year, five additional members of the editorial board from institutions outside the publishing institution were appointed. Further improvements were also made to enhance the completeness and quality of the journal management system in OJS.

Starting in 2025, the Inovtek Journal of Informatics Series increased its publication frequency to three issues per year. Furthermore, beginning with Volume 11 Number 1 in 2026, the journal has been published four times annually, with issues scheduled for February, May, August, and November.
